A visit of Paul Harris

Feb.1935

Paul Harris visits Japan. The founder of Rotary, Paul Harris arrived in Japan with Mrs. Harris on Feb. 9, 1935.
Together with the incumbent R. I. President R. L. Hill and Mrs. Hill, they were enroute to the Pacific Area Conference taking place in Manila. Adverse weather having delayed arrival for 3days, there was time for only a day's stay, but Paul Harris planted a laurel sapling in the Imperial Hotel garden and attended a Japanese style luncheon.
Following a banquet, he departed with his ship to Kobe, where there was time only for a brief excursion to Kyoto and a welcome luncheon at the Shin”¾Osaka Hotel as the ship left the very evening.
